UNM Cross Country Posts Solid Results at Lobo Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico cross country team opened its season with some strong individual performances Saturday as it hosted the Lobo Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course.

Although meet results won't starting counting toward at-large bids for the NCAA Championship until next Friday, Saturday's meet showed that the Lobos and their men's team and No. 1 and defending national champion women's team have some depth and talent.

New Mexico competed a number of runners who were looking for spots on the team's competitive travel squad, which will make its debut later this month at Notre Dame.

Kendall Kelly was the top finisher for the New Mexico women, covering the 5K course in 18:34.70 to place third overall in the women's race, which also featured athletes from New Mexico, UTEP and Eastern New Mexico, plus a handful of unattached runners.
